Midnight Meal For Stranded Marines
Semper Fidelis, meaning “always faithful,” is the Marine Corps motto. For their faithful service to our country, USO volunteers stand ready in any clime and place, as well as any time and place, to return the favor.
In March, some III MEF Marines from Okinawa and Iwakuni, Japan, were returning to Japan from training at the Pohakuloa Training Area on the Big Island of Hawai’i when the group’s senior leadership called on Guam USO for support organizing a late-night meal for their troops as they came through on a layover.
Programs Manager Edmund Lebita and Duty Manager Jadine Lujan jumped into action to organize a midnight meal that included barbecued chicken and ribs, red rice (a local favorite on Guam), Jamaican Rice, a fresh garden salad and a tropical fruit assortment.
The meal was served to the group of air-wingers from 1st MAW on picnic tables located just outside of their barracks until 1 a.m., when they returned to their rooms get some to rest before their flight back home to Okinawa and Iwakuni. Semper Fi, Marines.
