USO Guam Supports National Coming Out Day
USO Guam proudly supported the LGBTQIA+ community during a special ceremony celebrating National Coming Out Day on October 11, 2024, which was hosted by Equality Guam and held at the Office of the Governor of Guam’s main conference room, Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor’s Complex, Adelup. This meaningful day celebrates individuals embracing their authentic selves and marks a pivotal moment for our society. It reflects the collective commitment of businesses and partners to embrace change and foster acceptance.
As local agencies and business partners gathered to commemorate this day, community members shared their stories of courage and authenticity. Laughter mingled with tears as attendees reflected on their journeys, offering support and encouragement to one another. The connections made that day stood as a testament to the power of solidarity.
“The USO celebrates diversity and inclusion within our military community and is committed to creating a culture of acceptance and belonging where every individual feels valued, respected, and supported. We hope our partnership with Equality Guam and signing of the Equality Pledge will highlight our unwavering support and help us honor the courage, resilience, and contributions of all LGBTQIA+ service members and their families, and all people who serve in the U.S. military,” stated USO Guam Area Director, Jadine Lujan. The Equality Pledge, signed by Lujan on behalf of USO Guam, establishes principles of inclusivity, empowerment, advocacy, education and community building to ensure equitable treatment for all customers, clients, community members and employees.
