"EMERGENCY" BANANA BREAD DELIVERY aboard the USS Ronald Reagan

There is nothing more urgent than a mother’s plea for her child… when Karen Beaulieu in Massachusetts learned that her daughter, US Navy sailor Josilyn Beaulieu, would be pulling into Naval Base Guam’s port aboard the USS Ronald Reagan, all she wanted was to satisfy her daughter’s request for homemade banana bread. Knowing she could never ship the bread in time, she turned to US Guam for help with an “emergency” banana bread delivery.

The request came in to USO Guam just as the USS Ronald Reagan was preparing to leave port, but staff and volunteers took the mission seriously and sprang to action to make a mother’s dream happen! When volunteer Patti Powers heard about the request, she immediately offered to bake some bread for the young sailor.

Sailor Josilyn Beaulieu was on watch this morning aboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) when she received a special surprise from her mom and USO Guam. Finding Josilyn in the midst of the busy departure with a carrier crew of thousands of sailors was no easy task, but with the help of our friends at US Naval Base Guam, MWR Guam, and the USS Ronald Reagan, we were able to deliver a taste of home to a deployed sailor today just before the carrier pulled away from the island.

“You have made my day/week/month!!!” Karen wrote to USO Guam after seeing pictures of Josilyn with her cake. “I thank God that I was able to find and reach out to you. Thank you USO for doing what you do best! Now it’s time for me to pay this forward…”

Thank you to all who made this happen supporting USO’s mission to connect service members to family, home, and country, throughout their service to our nation. #BeTheForce
