As part of the USO’s Transition 360 Alliance, Hire Heroes USA equips military members, Veterans and their spouses with the tools they need to make a successful transition to a civilian career.
One-on-One Virtual Career Coaching
One-on-one virtual career coaching provides assessment, training and mentorship that will help you understand your skills, learn job search techniques and create a strong resume. Your Transition Specialist will work with you remotely throughout your job search, no matter where you live. During the active job search, coaching focuses on continued networking and interviewing skills, and the option of participating in mock interviews with a professional volunteer.
Transition Workshops
During a two-day workshop, you will develop a strategic plan, create a resume that clearly conveys your experience and value and learn job search, application, interview and networking skills.
USO & Hire Heroes USA Partnership:
• The USO and Hire Heroes USA began its partnership in 2010.
• Since 2010, more than 5,000 troops in transition, wounded, ill and injured troops, their spouses and caregivers have benefitted from the USO/Hire Heroes USA partnership.
• Approximately 1,000 program participants have been hired through their USO/Hire Heroes USA experience.
• To date, the USO and Hire Heroes USA have hosted more than 300 Transition Workshops and Career Opportunity Days:
• In 2014, the USO hosted 118 USO/Hire Heroes USA events. Including locations such as: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Kentucky, among many other locations.
• Additionally, in 2014 the USO and Hire Heroes hosted its first overseas workshops in Italy and Germany and plan to bring the program to England in 2015.
USO Transition 360 Alliance:
• On May 11, 2015 the USO announced the formation of USO Transition 360 Alliance, an initiative that attempts to cover every angle of a military family’s transition into civilian life when their service ends.
• Hire Heroes USA was selected because of the organizations demonstrated record of excellence and the ability to meet the needs of troops and scale their services globally.
• Additional USO Transition 360 Alliance partners include: Comfort Crew for Military Kids, Stronger Families and RP/6.
How does it work:
USO/Hire Heroes USA partnership has three components:
Transition Workshops: These workshops offer extensive practical application in resume writing, navigation of online search tools like Linked In, interview skills, strategic planning for employment and goal setting.
Career Opportunity Days: These are small, non-traditional career fair type events where service members, their spouse and caregivers as well as recently medically separated veterans are connected with employers for practice interviews onsite. In the fall of 2015, we will be revamping this program to include a greater emphasis on employer industry panels to help broaden perspectives of various career paths and opportunities.
One-on-One Career Coaching: This is available to support transitioning troops who are unable to attend a transition workshop or career opportunity day, accessible online and via the phone. Services include:
• Online registration with one-on-one communication with their assigned Veteran Transition Specialist.
• All the same resources, tools and assistance available through the USO/Hire Heroes USA Transition Workshops.
• Online portal which will provide troops in transition, recently medically separated veterans, wounded, ill or injured troops and their caregivers and spouses access to video lessons, resume templates, employment workbooks, and other material designed to ease their transition.
What service members and their families have to say:
• 99% of workshop participants surveyed said they would recommend the USO/Hire Heroes USA Transition Workshops to their fellow service members.
• 96% of workshop participants surveyed agreed that the USO/Hire Heroes USA Transition Workshop increased their sense of hope and confidence
